I have seriously neglected my Blog here, so for that I have to apologise. You see I needed to take some time away and re-start. And so The ‘New’ Story Begins…
I often wonder why anyone would want to listen to my story, or to anyone else’s for that matter. It’s a valid question, but for a Storyteller like me, stories are what my business is all about. No story, no business!
There are many reasons for sharing stories and why we must keep this almost lost art alive! stories have been told for centuries, and they should continue to be told. They are our means of connecting with others, sharing ideas, or problems, and they can often have a healing potential too. It was my personal journey of loss and trauma that prompted me to begin this cathartic, and life changing opportunity to host Storytelling Events and Workshops. It took some time for me to realise this was my calling, but this past year, has given me the confidence, and the strength to know this is my future vision. And the fact that I get to share this with so many other people, is beautiful!
My journey into to the world of Storytelling began this time last year with my very first event planned. I had found the perfect person to share their inspiring story at the first event, and it was all planned! The venue was a small, independent cafe within the seaside town of Penarth, South Wales. An inviting, and intimate environment, that was the perfect backdrop for any Story to be shared. The food served was tasty, and of excellent quality, and the ambience was all I had hoped for. Griff’s Deli, as it is named, was the first venue for our Storytelling, and it set quite the scene.
I chose the very first Storyteller by listening, and observing. Approaching someone is not easy, but I knew that Julie’s Story was one to be admired, and to be inspired by. Julie agreed (thankfully) to share her powerful story of living with OCD and the effects on her family and all the events that happened as a result of this debilitating condition. You can find out more about Julie and her work by following this link.
The audience were engaged, entertained, and empathetic towards Julie’s story. It truly is inspiring. Julie began by explaining that she is not a professional speaker, and is quite introverted, so this was completely out of her comfort zone. She was amazing. Her story came to life before an audience of women who felt every word she spoke. The event was a success, and so it began. The journey towards a business of sharing stories, and holding a space for the untold stories, to now be told.
From my own story of losing our son at the age of 9 weeks, and what came after, to now helping others share their own personal stories, is something I will never take for granted, but I will be in a place of privilege to have been a part of that persons journey.
I speak about the benefits of storytelling often, and I enjoy sharing why they are important, and why we need to keep this gift going. Stories entertain us, they can ignite imagination, they connect us, and they can impart wisdom. We can learn about different cultures and beliefs. We can even heal from the sharing of, and listening to stories. Stories are told for us to learn, engage, and develop communication skills. The benefits are endless, and I am determined to keep sharing my stories, and those of the people I meet.
You can find out more about the work we do at The Cats Pyjamas Kindness Co. Ltd via our website or Social Media, and I hope you find the work interesting and entertaining. I would love you to come along on this journey with me, and even share a story or two with me.
For Now, thank you for your time, and I look forward to sharing more of the work I do shortly, best wishes, Tracy x
